MISEREOR es una organización no gubernamental dedicada a promover iniciativas para combatir el hambre y la pobreza en el mundo. Fue fundada en 1958 como iniciativa de desarrollo de la iglesia católica en Alemania. Se puede leer en su sitio web:
MISEREOR is mandated by the Catholic Church in Germany:
- to fight the causes of hardship and misery as manifested chiefly in countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America in the forms of hunger, disease, poverty and other forms of human suffering,
- thus enabling the people affected to lead a life of human dignity,
- and to promote justice, freedom, reconciliation and peace in the world.
Su llamado no sólo es pra los que profesan el credo católico romano, sino es para aquéllos (me imagino que en Alemania hay luteranos, metodistas y demás corrientes originadas por la Reforma Protestante del siglo XVI) que conforman la sociedad civil:
We call upon Catholics, as well as everyone else in Germany, to open their eyes to poverty and need in the world, to see the world as the poorest of the poor and the oppressed see it, and to empathise and feel with them as Jesus did: “Misereor super turbam” - “I suffer with the people” (Mk 8.2).
En verdad, la motivación en pro de las causas sociales es tema de todos los días y de todos los intereses, credos y posturas políticas:
This Christian motivation should lead us not only to help and share with the poor, but also to undergo a process of spiritual renewal, becoming “richer” people through solidarity and community with the poor. It should also lead us to make a commitment to creating a more just and peaceful One World through responsible development of our own society.
